What’s a Trough Feeder?

A trough feeder, a chute feeder, or a reciprocating feeder is a feeding equipment used earlier to discharge ore storage tanks. The trough feeder mainly feeds lump and granular materials from the storage silo to various receiving devices, but it is not suitable for conveying concentrate powder and other powdery materials. It can be erected on the ground or hoisted on the ore bin or discharge port. It is mainly used as feeding equipment for jaw crushers and other equipment that require uniform feeding.

Working Principle Of Trough Feeder

Bulk materials are loaded onto a trough feeder at specific points, often called loading points. It can be done using loaders, excavators, or other material-handling machinery. The trough of a trough feeder is designed to contain and guide the bulk materials being transported. The sloping trough allows gravity to aid the flow of the content, ensuring a stable and consistent supply to the animals throughout the day. The material is then moved along the trough using a continuous belt or chain conveyor system.

Structure

The trough feeder is mainly composed of a conveyor trough, a driver, an exciter frame, a receiving port, a discharge port and an elastic support assembly. The trough holds and conveys the material, the drive generates vibration to push the material forward, the exciter frame supports the drive, the receiver and discharge ports are responsible for the material entering and discharging respectively, and the elastic support assembly reduces vibration noise and impact. The overall design is intended to achieve efficient and continuous material conveying.
